CENTRAL PARK WEST
A complete remodel, designed in conjunction with our long-term friends and colleagues TBD Architecture, of a spacious and sunny apartment overlooking Central Park. We completely reworked the interior plan, and created a new, simplified, modernized but still warm and classic design language. We took a lot of inspiration from one historical element of the original design: the chrysanthemum doorknobs.
Our Korean client wanted her culture reflected in their home, which we delighted in doing throughout. The chrysanthemum, which is a recurring motif in Asian art, was also incorporated in the ceiling roses, rugs, lighting, and the mosaic floors. In addition, beautiful bojagi textiles by Korean artist Wonju Seo were commissioned, our office designed the falling gingko leaf brass and walnut inlay at the bar, and Korean antiques intermingled with modern furnishings. The result is a calm haven that floats above the park. A retreat for our clients to recharge from their busy lives.
